Globe iconReminder: Accessibility of websites hosted on CHPC resources

The CHPC hosts numerous websites and web applications for research groups in the university community. All websites hosted at the University of Utah (a public university) must comply with WCAG 2.1, Level AA accessibility standards by April 2026 under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Requirements include, but are not limited to, text alternatives to non-text content, such as captions for images, audio, and video; high contrast between text and backgrounds; keyboard accessibility; and navigable page structure with proper HTML semantics. Groups and individuals that host websites on CHPC resources are responsible for ensuring their web content is compliant.

More information about the requirements is available on the ADA website; we encourage those with websites hosted on CHPC resources to review this page. You can check the accessibility of your site with built-in tools in Chrome (open "DevTools," navigate to "Audits," and check "Accessibility"), Firefox (open "Web Developer Tools" and navigate to the "Accessibility" tab), and Safari (navigate to "Develop," "Show Web Inspector," "Audit," and "Accessibility," then click "Start"). There are also third-party tools that you can use to check a site's accessibility, such as WAVE from WebAIM.

Please consider joining the University Webmasters Community to learn more about accessibility requirements and resources.
